Hello again everyone...
I agree with you... there is no disagreement here... it is a different perspective...
Yes, all animals including human are fearful of the unkown... why because they want to survive.. this is their basic instinct!!
Once you add the human brain to the equation... then fear of the unknown should be replaced with knowledge and reasoning, why you shouldn't worry!
See all religions teach you to trust God and if you do the right thing, God will take care of you and you shouldn't worry or stress about it!
How do you do the right thing!? You educate yourself, you avoid harm to yourself and others... you don't invade others rights, human, animals, nature, etc.
I agree with you that smacking kids is not the right way to raise kids, and for the record, that is not the way I was raised nor did I raise my kids that way!! What I said about the kid biting mommy was not made up, it was from the breatfeeding consultant that taught us how to do it! It is necessary you can't avoid it that is the nature of baby human, it won't react to words like BAD, and pulling out merely is not going to teach it why it happened as that could happen even if the baby didn't bite....
I think the Athiest are just confusing two obvious thing in this discussion...
1) They are trying to deny all the human basic instincts... including belief in God... by mixing it in this "fear" discussion... As always they don't look at thing realisticly but more as to what idealistically would be favorable.
2) Use of Fear of Hell and Greed for Heaven has always been the technique of many religions for their general population to encourage religious practice... This is sad if their followers are stuck in that stage... once they are formed to practice their religion's basics they should move on to the higher level... Being the perfect human for the sake and love of God! not fear from hell or greed for heaven...
As a final note to our friend that mentioned the Crockodile story, I could say stupid things like, you shouldn't take your kid to a pond with a crockodile in it... but I am wiser than that... I am using this discussion to exchange our understanding... what I have to say in return is....
1) Why do we warn him of the Crockodile?
Because we want him to survive and not be injured by the Crockodile...
2) You as the messenger, how do you know that Crockodile will hurt him?
From either my experience, or trust in someone that had the experience....
3) Should I trust you on your word, or should I experience it myself and then realize I made a mistake?
Well you are doomed if you are not careful... you can get as close as you want but if you are not careful you might hurt yourself.
4) Ok, I trust you, what should I do know?
Protect yourself, if you can avoid not getting close to the pond, don't go there... if you need to coexist with it and live around the pond then protect yourself by putting up fences, leaving food other areas so he won't come back at you... etc.
5) What do I get in return for all this trouble?
First you survived and you are not doomed to a suferring death... second, you don't have to worry about that fear anymore because you protected yourself... third, now you can go on to bigger thing, like educating yourself and practicing your other potentials!!
My Athiest friends... See... I can reason too... I can talk to my son and explain him all this too... but do you think that would work if he is 2!? Give him time-out if he touches the crockodile!??? He might not get a second chance, you know!!
Do you want me to compare my above example to fear of hell? Or will you do your own thinking??? :-D
